Today is my birthday and I'll be honest; It didn't start out well. Yesterday I ate enough to feed 17.2 people--all the while rationalizing those extra servings by promising myself I'd go to the gym today. . . and I didn't go to the gym today (surprise). I woke up still overly-full with a sore throat and headache, which makes it the 13,245th cold that I've gotten in this city. (Why do I love it so much here?) Plus, there was the cold sore trying to stab it's way through the corner of my mouth. E is gone and I was alone. Not that I expected any kind of extravaganza, but this was the worst morning I've had in a while. I couldn't help but think, "Is this what birthdays are supposed to be like?"
But then my girlies made it all up to me and then some. I rested while they were at school and felt much better after that. We made a cake together, put on party hats, and blew out the candles about 6 times (why not?). Birthday hugs and kisses make everything sweeter, am I right? Not to mention, there was some yummy(?) birthday soup and birthday candy to be had all around.

She definitely had something up her sleeve.

W just had something all over her dress.

(Act happy. . .act happy. . .act happy.)

Apparently the birthday preparations required a huge mess. They're workin hard at that birthday soup I was talking about.

Only the best ingredients/candy would do. S is a very talented chef for a 4 year old.

Well, at least she's a dedicated chef. Let's take a closer look at that soup. . .

I may or may not recommend evasive tactics such as slipping out of the room or at least standing next to a sink when she needs taste-testers . . and I say that in the nicest way possible. "A" for effort, my angel. The rest will come in time.
And my girls went to a lot of effort to make this mama happy.
To top it all off, I've received so many well-wishes and felicidades from you all. This is definitely what birthdays are supposed to be like. Thanks, guys. You're the best.
